Bio : Peter W. Brewer

Peter William Brewer is based in Miami, FL, USA, where in addition to performing, he currently teaches at Barry University (Miami Shores, FL), serving as Assistant Professor of Music in the Department of Fine Arts.

Groups and artists with which Peter performs and has performed include: Miami Jazz Consort, 14 Jazz Orchestra, Ed Calle’s Mamblue Jazz Orchestra, Peter William Brewer Orchestra (Mallorca,Spain/1993-2000), Miami Jazz Quartet (Mallorca, Barcelona/1994-2001), KC and the Sunshine Band (2001-2003); Paul Anka (2004-2012); Diane Schuur; Cab Calloway Orchestra; Sibel Kose; The Temptations; The Four Tops; The O’Jays; Ben Vereen; Little Anthony and the Imperials; Bernadette Peters; Jack Jones; Tony Orlando; Celia Cruz; Barry Manilow; Dihann Carroll; Concha Buika; Tito Puente; Hal Linden; Juan Gabriel; Willy Chirino; Boots Randolph and many others.

He began freelancing after completion of his studies for Bachelor of Music (saxophone/woodwinds – Studio Music and Jazz performance) in 1990 at the University of Miami. He later continued his studies and received a Master of Music (concentration in Studio Music and Jazz performance) in 1994. Finally, Peter completed the Doctoral of Musical Arts degree program at the University of Miami in May 2009, and published his Doctoral essay entitled, The Creative Process of Ira Sullivan. 

During  his time at University of Miami he had the privilege of studying jazz with great jazz musicians/educators such as Whit Sidener, Gary Keller, Gary Campbell, Vince Maggio, Don Coffman, Ron Miller, and Gary Lindsay, and Shelton Berg. Upon completion of his Master’s degree in 1993, Peter formed his own 11-piece orchestra and took it to Mallorca, Spain, where the band performed jazz and motown music nightly, from March 1993- October 2000, at Son Amar, a 2000-seat theater. Concurrent with that time and continuing to the present, Peter has traveled between the USA and Europe performing as leader of his own groups and as a sideman. During that span he has also worked as a private instructor of saxophone and other woodwinds, as well as contractor of musicians. During 2001-2003 and while on tour with KC and the Sunshine Band, Peter appeared as saxophonist/soloist on such nationally televised programs as the Today Show, Dick Clark’s ABC 70’s Celebration, a VH1 special, and the motion-picture “The In-Laws”. In September 2003, Peter returned to Miami from a six-month stint in Barcelona where he presided over the opening and daily musical management as the Musical Director at newly opened jazz club “Luna”, located in the spectacular Hotel La Florida on Tibidabo Mountain overlooking Barcelona. During his stint there Peter performed 4 nights a week in the club with his own jazz groups and managed the budget and daily musical events for the club and hotel.

Peter also frequently serves as International Faculty at a jaz workshop held in Pulawy, Poland,. Most recently, he taught jazz saxophone, theory, improvisation, and lectured on aspects of our perception of sounds and how it may affect performance at the 43rd Annual Pulawy International Jazz Workshop held in July, 2015.
